Description
Castle Square in the heart of the Polish capital of Warsaw's Old Town, is beautifully vibrant. It's difficult to take in the fact that by the end of the Second World War, this incredible city had been reduced to almost nothing but rubble. Warsaw suffered unthinkable destruction and devastation and more or less everything you see had to be rebuilt from scratch using as many original bricks as possible. Only a few surviving fragments of the Royal Castle itself remained. I think it says a great deal about the spirit and determination of the people of Poland that after much work and dedication, this wonderful phoenix has once again risen from the ashes to be a world class destination. The Old Town has been placed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as "An outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th Century". Quite deservedly so. I hand blended textures with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this classic Polish city scene.
