Description
Hillerod is a small town just a short 40min train ride North of the Danish capital Copenhagen. It's a lovely little town but the main attraction is undoubtedly it's wonderfully striking castle. Although it was late November and bitterly cold, when I arrived at Frederiksborg Slot (or Frederiksborg Palace/Castle) after a brisk walk through the town, I was glad I'd made the trip. A combination of the chilly winter weather and it being mid week meant that I had the place almost to myself. It was ideal to photograph without the crowds that summer brings. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful lake and at the rear there is a lovely Baroque style garden. This was taken at the gate on the way into the grounds, the cobbled paths and red brick buildings whet your appetite for what lies beyond. I could have easily spent an entire day wandering through the long corridors and ornate rooms filled with history...but it's just as well I don't spook easily as the only footsteps I heard were my own.
