Description
Place des Quinconces, Bordeaux, France, is one of the largest city squares in Europe and has a history dating all the way back to 1820. At the western side of the square sits the massive Girondins Monument, one of the cities most prominent landmarks, put in place to honour the heroes of the French Revolution. It comprises of a 54m tall colulmn with a statue at the very top representing Freedom and a spectacular fountain surrounding the base and featuring a multitude of ornate sculptures of horses, fish and a variety of mythical creatures. Unfortunately the fountain suffered some damage during the Second World War, but it has now been restored to it's former glory. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph of these magnificent horses.
