Description
To the West of the Saone River, the old city of Lyon rises in layers through Vieux Lyon and then towards the Fourviere district, up a steep hill to finally reach the distinctive
Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere. From its idyllic hilltop location, the terraces surrounding this magnificent example of both Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, give unrivalled views over the entire city. At the front of this image, on the riverside, is the Cathedrale Saint Jean Baptiste (St John's Cathedral) which has a history dating all the way back to the 12th Century and is a magnificent construction in the gothic and romanesque styles. I blended a little painterly texture with my original photograph in black and white, to compliment the vintage feel of this old world French scene.
