The long climb up any of the steep steps of Fourviere Hill is an exhausting one, especially in the warmth of early autumn. The best way to experience the panoramic view of the city and particuarly the charming Vieux Lyon, is to take the historic funicular upwards and walk down, less tiring and much more enjoyable! At the top end of this huge set of stone stairs, you get to see the most fantastic vista across the vibrant tiled rooftops, taking in the tower and flying buttresses of Cathedrale Saint Jean Baptiste (St John's Cathedral). This incredible building situated on the bank of the Saone River and built in the gothic and romanesque architectural styles has a history going all the way back to the 12th Century. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this colorful Lyon city scene.
