Artist's Description
The picturesque Bairro Alto district of Lisbon, dating back to the 16th Century is a cultural maze I enjoy getting lost in. Each turn of a corner brings something new and wonderful to the eyes of the hungry traveller seeking inspiration. For me this area is the beating heart of Lisbon, it's hilly, winding streets and alleys the very lifeblood of the city. A vibrant labyrinth filled with captivating sounds as the strains of the popular 'Fado' music emanates from small intimate bars and alluring smells as the cooking of divine locally produced food entices you into the little restaurants which can be found all over. It's an enchanting place at any time of the year but is particularly lively during the Fiesta in June when I took this photo. There are decorative coloured flags and banners strewn everywhere and locals and tourists alike are invited to participate in the traditional fun every evening until the wee small hours.

I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
