Artist's Description
Riga, capital of Latvia, is the largest city of the Baltic States. Its spattering of gothic spires, abundunce of onion domed churches and plethora of beautifully restored early 20th Century Art Nouveau architecture (widely accepted to be the finest collection in the world) make it an absolute joy to photograph. The quaint cobbled streets of Vecriga, the historical centre, can be either completely empty of people or bursting with energy depending on the time of day or night. The rich and varied history of the city, dating back to 1201 can be felt at every turn, the influences of each ruling power of the past apparent in the surroundings. Behind the quaint little restaurants and cafes, the clock tower of Riga's Romanesque Cathedral can be seen. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph in black and white to compliment the old world feel of this classic Vecriga street scene.
About Carol Japp
I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
