Artist's Description
Hillerod is a picturesque town just a little north of the Danish capital Copenhagen. The main attraction is without a doubt the strikingly dramatic castle. It was early winter when I arrived at Frederiksborg Slot (or Frederiksborg Palace/Castle), and after a brisk walk through town, I was glad I'd made the journey. Both the chilly winter weather and the fact that it was mid week meant that I had the place almost to myself. It was ideal to photograph without the crowds that summer brings. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful lake and at the rear there is a wondeful Baroque style garden. The cobbled paths and brick buildings at the entrance give you a taste of what lies beyond. I could have easily spent an entire day wandering through the long corridors and ornate rooms filled with history...but it's just as well I don't spook easily as the only footsteps I heard on the wooden floorbards, were my own. I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
