Description
The North German city of Hamburg isn't likely to be described as quaint and full of old world charm like some of the other European cities you associate with cobblestone streets and historic alleyways, but it does have areas that still hark back to the days when merchants and traders transported their wares by canal. Take a look behind and beyond the contemporary towering architecture and you will find them. Neatly tucked away on Deichstrasse, the oldest remaining street of the Altstadt, pretty, colourful, multi windowed waterfront buildings with higglety pigglety rooftops give you a glimpse of history. By night, the glowing festive street lights and inviting evening warmth from within reflect on the pavements of Nikolaifleet, giving quite a different feel to the eerie gloom of a wet winter's day. I hand blended painterly textures with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this historic Hamburg street scene.
