One of the things I try to do when I travel to a new destination is visit a local historic cemetery. I feel there is a great deal to learn about the culture, traditions and history of a place from the wonderful old graveyards usually found on the outskirts of town, it's always worth that tram or trolley ride to see these outdoor art galleries often filled with the most amazing sculptures and skilled craftsmanship rarely seen in modern society . I have a few favourites and a few more still on my list that I hope to get the opportunity to visit one day but Monumental Cemetery in Milan, Italy I think will always be top of my list for it's absolutely breathtaking beauty. A peaceful oasis of hushed calm in an otherwise frantic city of chaos, crowds and noise, it was a lovely way to spend a quiet afternoon in late Autumn, only occasionally passing another person also gazing in awe at the wonders and hidden gems. I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
