Artist's Description

Deep in the heart of Warsaw's Old Town lies a quiet little square called Kanonia. The name derives from the surrounding buildings which housed canons and clergymen in the 17th Century. A large bronze bell which has never hung in any church and is also from the 17th century sits in the middle of the square. Legend suggests that circling it three times will bring you good luck. Kanonia is also home to the narrowest house in Warsaw, the entrance of which can be seen in the centre of this photo. This building was a clever money saver, as 400 years ago, the people of Poland were required to pay a property tax dependent on the witdth of the external facade of their dwelling. The building was unfortunately partially destroyed in 1944 but was rebuilt in 1959 to its original design.

About Carol Japp

Carol Japp

I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
