On the West bank of the Saone River, the historic city of Lyon rises in layers through Vieux Lyon and then towards the Fourviere district, up a steep hill to finally reach the distinctive
Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere. From its idyllic hilltop location, the terraces surrounding this magnificent example of both Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, give unrivalled views over the entire city. At the front of this image, on the riverside, is the Cathedrale Saint Jean Baptiste (St John's Cathedral) which has a history dating all the way back to the 12th Century and is a magnificent construction in the gothic and romanesque styles. I blended painterly textures with my original photograph in black and white to compliment the vintage feel of this old world French scene.

I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
