Description
Valencia Cathedral Facade. Built mainly between the 13th and 15th centuries, in a mixture of architectural styles, but predominantly gothic, the historic Cathedral of Valencia, or Basilica of The Assumption of Our Lady as it is also known is a beautiful building inside and out. The highly ornate Baroque facade has so much going on that you really need quite a bit of time to take it all in. Tucked rather awkwardly between buildings, it's difficult to get a good clear view of the entire cathedral, pictured here is the main entry, there are several others all around the construction, each one unique and interesting in it's own right. The Cathedral is famously home to a chalice which is said to be The Holy Grail, whether or not this is true remains to be proven but it's certainly worth seeing. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph to compliment the historic feel of this classic Valencian architectural scene.

Carol, what a great image this is! The baroque exterior possesses such clarity and artistic appeal; the perspective is terrific, also. I love this beautiful work of architecture as well as your description of it. l/f
