Description
Built mainly between the 13th and 15th centuries, in a mixture of architectural styles, but predominantly gothic, the historic Cathedral of Valencia, or Basilica of The Assumption of Our Lady as it is also known is a beautiful building inside and out. The highly ornate Baroque facade has so much going on that you really need quite a bit of time to take it all in. Tucked rather awkwardly between buildings, it's difficult to get a good clear view of the entire cathedral, pictured here is the main entry, the Baroque Puerta de Hierros (or The Iron Gate), there are several others all around the construction, each one unique and interesting in it's own right. On the left is the gothic style octagonal Miguelete Tower, a 207 step climb to the top gives wonderful views over the old town and beyond. The Cathedral is famously home to a chalice which is said to be The Holy Grail, whether or not this is true remains to be proven but it's certainly worth seeing. I added texture to Valencia Cathedral and Miguelete Bell Tower to complete the historic feel.

Carol, the perspective of this presentation of the ancient edifice of Valencia is awesome! I love the intricate and textured stone and the beautiful colors of the sky! l/f
