Description
Belem is one of the most fascinating areas of Lisbon, Portugal. A pleasant stroll along the banks of the Tagus River will bring you to many historic points of interest. One of the most iconic is the 'Torre de Belem. pictured here. Built in 1515 to guard the entrance to Lisbon's harbour, the Belem Tower was the starting point of many of the Voyages of Discovery. Built in 'Manueline Style' it is adorned with stonework motifs depicting historical figures. The architect Francisco de Arruda had worked on Portuguese fortifications in Morocco and you can see the Moorish influence in the watchtowers. Well worth a short tram ride if you're ever in the Portuguese capital. Torre de Belem Lisbon Portugal has a little added texture to compliment the historic feel of the image.

OMG, Carol, this is one stunning capture - love everything about it including your description. I can't image the work that went into this over 400 years ago. f/l
