Description
Riga, capital of Latvia, is the largest city of the Baltic States. Its spattering of gothic spires, abundunce of onion domed churches and plethora of beautifully restored early 20th Century Art Nouveau architecture (widely accepted to be the finest collection in the world) make it an absolute joy to photograph. The quaint cobbled streets of Vecriga, the historical centre, can be either completely empty of people or bursting with energy depending on the time of day or night. The rich and varied history of the city, dating back to 1201 can be felt at every turn, the influences of each ruling power of the past apparent in the surroundings. The title of European Capital of Culture in 2014 was certainly well deserved! I added a little texture to complete the vintage feel of this historic place.
