Description
The Graben in Vienna's City Centre has a long history leading all the way back to the middle ages. Today this beautiful street in the Austrian capital is lined with fine examples of various styles of architecture popular throughout the centuries, amongst them, Baroque and Romanesque. To the right of 'The Architecture of Vienna', the very modern 'Haas Haus', controversial because of its stark contrast to the surrounding historic buildings. Third on the left is the famous 'Ankerhaus' designed by Otto Wagner. A pleasant stroll along this pedestrian friendly shoppers paradise will take you from the landmark St.Stephen's Cathedral to the Kohlmarkt via the famous 'Pestaule', a monument erected in 1679, after the great plague epidemic, the worst in Viennese history.
