Artist's Description
Restauradores Square, Lisbon, Portugal. This popular public square commemorates the restoration of Portuguese Independence from Spainish rule in 1640 and the main attraction of the square, a 30m high obelisk erected in 1886, depicts various scenes of battle fought throughout the Portugese Restoration War. The delightful square is surrounded by beautiful old buildings including a fabulous example of Art Deco, the former Eden Theater, and is the starting point of Lisbon's main boulevard, the tree lined Avenida de Libertade. Seen here is one colorful corner of Praca dos Restauradores, balconies of surrounding facades overlook the busy square, and pastel coloured architecture of the hillside buildings tower upward to the horizon beyond. I hand blended textures with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this classic Lisboa city scene.
About Carol Japp

I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
