Description
The Petersfriedhof or St.Peter's Cemetery is not only one of Salzburg's oldest with origins dating back to around 700 and the first tombstone dated 1288 but also one of the oldest and most enchanting cemeteries in the world. This unique and fascinating place is the final resting place of many of Austria's renowned public figures, among them, Mozart's sister 'Nannerl' and Michael Haydn, brother of Joseph Haydn. Beautifully ornate filigree wrought iron crosses mark almost every grave and the small cobblestone paths give a very intimate feel to this small area that sits in the shadow of Festungsberg Mountain. At the end of the path sits Margarethen Kapelle, a beautiful stone chapel. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph in black and white, to compliment the old world feel of this historic European cemetery scene.
