The Petersfriedhof or St.Peter's Cemetery is not only one of Salzburg's oldest with origins dating back to around 700 and the first tombstone dated 1288 but also one of the most enchanting cemeteries in the world. This unique and fascinating place is the final resting place of many of Austria's renowned public figures, among them, Mozart's sister 'Nannerl' and Michael Haydn, brother of Joseph Haydn. Beautifully ornate filigree wrought iron crosses mark almost every grave and the small cobblestone paths give a very intimate feel to this small area that sits in the shadow of Festungsberg Mountain. Beyond, high atop the mountain, overlooking the city, sits Hohensalzburg Fortress, a medieval castle with a history dating all the way back to the early 11th Century. I hand blended a little painterly texture with my original photograph in black and white, to compliment the old world feel of this historic European cemetery scene.
I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
