Artist's Description

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, one of the world's oldest shopping malls, built by Giuseppe Mengoni between 1865 and 1877 is the perfect place for the Milanese to walk as it teems with life in the evening. The Galleria is often nicknamed 'il salotto di Milano' which translates as 'Milan's drawing room' - due to its many shops and popularity as a meeting and dining place. The vast amount of intricate detail and sheer scale of this beautiful arcade are nothing short of spectacular and would most definitely keep any visitor to this Northern Italian city enthralled. Framed in the arch, bottom left of this image is the 1872 monument of Leonardo Da Vinci by Pietro Magni. It stands in the centre of Piazza Della Scala, and Leonardo has a perfect view of Milan's famous opera house, La Scala.

About Carol Japp

Carol Japp

I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
