Description
Basel is a sometimes overlooked city in the North of Switzerland which is unfortunate because it is, in my opinion, just as alluring as the more well known and frequented areas of the region. The Altstadt, or Old Town is an area that draws me back again and again, I never tire of walking the quaint little streets, especially in summer when the atmosphere is delightful and the air is filled with the pleasant chatter of patrons sitting outside the charming little cafes and bars. Basel's ideal location on the map, right where the Swiss, German and French borders meet, allows for visits to many nearby places of interest both in the neighbouring countries and in Switzerland itself. This shot was taken from the Wettsteinbrucke, one of the many bridges crossing the Rhine River and an ideal spot to view Basel Munster (Cathedral) instantly recognisable by its brick red gothic spires. I hand blended textures with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this classic Swiss Riverside scene.
