Description
It is well worth the metro ride from Washington DC across The Potomac River to see this huge, iconic monument commemorating all Marines who have bravely given their lives defending the United States since the year 1775. Based on a famous photo taken in 1945 at the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II of 6 heroic Marines raising the US flag at the peak of Mount Suribachi, the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) is very impressive and you don't quite realise the sheer scale of it till you are standing before it in awe. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph to compliment the historic feel of this image.
