Artist's Description
Dating back to the year 1825, a bronze statue of Louis XIV sitting gallantly astride his horse, a monument to Rhone at his feet, is one of the main focal points of La Place Bellecour. This huge square with it's noticeable lack of greenery is situated in the Presqu'ile district in the very centre of Lyon and is a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors alike. Behind the square, on the other side of the Soane River, Fourviere hill rises high, the monumental Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere overlooks the entire city of Lyon and can be seen from miles around. Constructed in the late 19th Century, with influences from both Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, this landmark building, affectionately known as the 'upside down elephant' is actually comprised of two churches, one built on top of the other. I blended a little texture with my original vintage style photograph to compliment the historic feel of this French city scene.
About Carol Japp
I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
