Description
La Passeggiata is an Italian tradition. All over Italy, as the heat of the day fades to nightfall, locals don their finest attire and head to the pedestrian areas for a 'gentle stroll' around the old town. They may stop en route for a cold beer or a glass of wine, to people watch or to have a chat. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, one of the world's oldest shopping malls, built by Giuseppe Mengoni between 1865 and 1877 is the perfect place for the Milanese to walk as it teems with life in the evening. The Galleria is often nicknamed 'il salotto di Milano' which translates as 'Milan's drawing room' - due to its many shops and popularity as a meeting and dining place. The backdrop is the awe inspiring gothic Duomo, Milan's beautiful cathedral.
