Description

Perched high on Festungberg Hill, overlooking the city, it seems that no matter where you are in Salzburg, you will always have a view of the majestic Hohensalzburg Fortress. A distinctive landmark with a history dating all the way back to 1077, Salzburg castle is one of the biggest medieval castles in Europe. Seen here from Nonnberggasse, in the shadow of Salzburg Castle, is the route up to the historic Nonnberg Abbey (featured in the movie 'The Sound of Music'). The snow capped Austrian Alps are also visible on the left.
