Description
The Speicherstadt (city of warehouses) area; seen here by the warm winter light of dusk; lies within the HafenCity Quarter in the Port of Hamburg. Built between 1883 and 1927 in the neo gothic; red brick architectural style; these buildings have entrances by land and water. Both impressive and grand; the UNESCO World Heritage status is certainly deserved. I visited the district in early evening and it was a joy to watch these gloriously vibrant facades fade as daylight receded and dusk fell. The glossy water surface reflecting glowing yellow light from within the tall buildings flanking the canal. The tall spire of St Catherine's Church can be seen towering over the city. I hand blended painterly textures with my original photograph to give this image a more impressionistic feel.
