Description
At the top of the hilly Rua dos Clerigos sits The Clerigos Church (Igreja dos Clerigos in Portuguese), a baroque wonder built in the mid 18th Century. The bell tower of the church is one of the most prominent landmarks of the city, and can be seen for miles around. A climb up the 240 steps of the tower is well worth it for the breathtaking view of the surrounding city of Porto. The hill on which this impressive church stands has an interesting history and was once known as the 'hill of the hanged men', due to it's former use as a burial ground for executed prisoners. I blended a little texture with my original photograph to compliment the vintage feel of this historic Porto scene.
