Description
Shakespeare definitely knew what he was doing when he chose the beautiful Italian city of Verona as the setting for his play about those two now very famous lovers Romeo and Juliet. The very fabric of this place oozes romance and it's very difficult not to get completely caught up in the feeling of relaxed enjoyment of your surroundings as you wander through the streets of the old town. The area around the wonderfully preserved Roman Bridge, the Ponte Pietra, which has straddled the Adige River for more than 2000 years, is probably my favourite part of the city. It's a real joy to sit quietly by the river as the sun goes down, people watch and marvel at the history around you.
