The North German city of Hamburg isn't likely to be described as quaint and full of old world charm like some of the other European cities you associate with cobblestone streets and historic alleyways, but it does have areas that still hark back to the days when merchants and traders transported their wares by canal. Take a look behind and beyond the contemporary towering architecture and you will find them. Neatly tucked away on Deichstrasse, the oldest remaining street of the Altstadt, pretty, colourful, multi windowed waterfront buildings with higglety pigglety rooftops give you a glimpse of history. By night, the glowing festive street lights and inviting evening warmth from within reflect on the pavements of Nikolaifleet, giving quite a different feel to the eerie gloom of a cold winter's day. I hand blended textures with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this historic Hamburg street scene.
I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
