Description
You probably wouldn't describe Hamburg in Northern Germany as quaint or full of charm like some of the other European cities you would associate with canals and waterways, but it does have a few little areas that still hark back to the days when merchants and traders transported their wares by boat. Take a look behind and beyond the contemporary towering architecture and you will find them. Neatly tucked away on Deichstrasse, the oldest remaining street of the Altstadt, pretty, colourful, multi windowed waterfront abodes with pointed uneven rooftops give you a glimpse of history. By night, the glowing street lights and inviting warmth from within the buildings reflect on the surrounding canals of Nikolaifleet, giving quite a different feel to the eerie gloom of a winter's day. I hand blended a selection of textures with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this classic Hamburg city scene by night.
