Description
The Place des Quinconces, Bordeaux, France, is one of the biggest city squares in all of Europe and has a history dating back to 1820. At the western end of the square sits the huge Girondins Monument, one of the main landmarks of the city, erected to honour the heroes of the French Revolution. It comprises of a 54m high white colulmn with a statue at the top representing Freedom and a spectacular fountain surrounding the base and featuring a multitude of ornate sculptures of horses, fish and a variety of mythical creatures. Unfortunately the fountain suffered some damage during the Second World War, but it has now been restored to it's former glory. I blended a little texture with my original photograph.
