Description
Hillerod is a lovely little town just a short distance from the Danish capital Copenhagen. The main attraction is undoubtedly it's strikingly dramatic castle. Although it was November and bitterly cold, when I arrived at Frederiksborg Slot (or Frederiksborg Palace/Castle) after a brisk walk through the town, I was glad I'd made the journey. A combination of the chilly winter weather and it being mid week meant that I had the place almost to myself. It was ideal to photograph without the crowds that summer brings. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful lake and at the rear there is a lovely Baroque style garden. The cobbled paths and red brick buildings at the entrance whet your appetite for what lies beyond. I could have easily spent an entire day wandering through the long corridors and ornate rooms filled with history...but it's just as well I don't spook easily as the only footsteps I heard were my own. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph to compliment the old world feel of this classic Danish castle scene.
