Within the extensive gardens of the beautiful Retiro Park in central Madrid, atop the incredibly fascinating Fountain of The Fallen Angel, you will find what is arguably the world's only public monument to the devil himself. Inspired by a passage from the epic work by John Milton, 'Paradise Lost', Lucifer is shown at the moment he is cast from Heaven. This controversial statue, by Spanish sculptor Ricardo Bellver has been surrounded by myths and legends since its creation in 1877 and curiously stands at 666 meters above sea level, coincidence or not? At a height of 2.65 meters and cast in bronze, this imposing figure shouldn't be missed during a visit to the Spanish capital city. This black and white image has a little added texture.
