Description
Gate No.2 of Gdansk Shipyards (formerly known as 'Lenin Shipyard'. Now part of the European Solidarity Centre library and museum in Gdansk, this famous place is the gateway to and from the shipyards where the Polish Protests of 1970 took place and people tragically lost their lives. A very important part of Polish history, this is the spot where well known local hero and leader Lech Walesa, the driving force behind the Solidarity movement and the person who is said to have revived a post-communist Poland, stood and announced to the waiting crowds, that a deal had been struck with the communist government and the strike could end. I hand blended a little texture with my original photograph in black and white.
