Perched high on a wall at one side of the Mittlere Brucke (Middle Bridge) in Basel, Switzerland, the charming statue of 'Helvetia on Her Travels' looks out over the beautiful vista of the River Rhine and Altstadt. Her packed suitcase waits at her feet and I've sat next to her many times and wondered what she's thinking.... Is she taking in the view of Basel before her and feeling glad to be home to such a lovely place ... or is she deciding where to go next with that suitcase filled with all her worldly goods, where her next destination will be? Either way, I can relate to her as a traveler, I feel a certain kinship with Helvetia and always hope I will return to Basel again to sit beside her and share a thought or two. I hand blended a selection of textures with my original photograph in black and white, to compliment the old world feel of this classic Basel city scene.
I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
