Description
The famous 'Basilisk Fountain' of the Swiss city of Basel dates back to the year 1884 and legend has it that this fantastical green creature hatched from a chicken egg that came from a lizard! Apparently they resided close to streams and could run across the water on their hind legs when afraid. Nicknamed 'king of serpents' owing to their strange combination of a dragon's wings, tail and neck and the body, head, claws and comb of a rooster, there are many fables and tales surrounding these fountains of which there are supposedly 28 still remaining from an original 50. I hand blended textures with my original photograph.
