This is probably one of the most iconic views in Venice. The resting gondolas in the foreground, covered in their blue tarps and bobbing gently on the green water of the Grand Canal, the island of San Giorgio Maggiore behind. The 16th century Palladio designed church of San Giorgio Maggiore and it's neo classical bell tower (campanile) which was added at a later date, make a perfect backdrop. I'm sure every visitor to this wonderfully romantic Italian city on the water has taken in this sight, such is its draw. I hand blended textures with my original photograph in black and white, to achieve a more painterly style which I felt suited this classic old world Venetian scene perfectly.
