Artist's Description

The view from the rooftop of Milan's most famous landmark, The Duomo, stretches as far as the eye can see in every direction. You could easily spend hours up there, picking out notable buildings and architectural wonders such as the octagonal bell tower of Chiesa di San Gottardo in Corte seen here on the right. I waited for the sun to dip down behind the horizon, and us reluctant to leave visitors were reminded that it was almost closing time. I wondered briefly what it might be like to stay up there after dark, what the metropolis would look like by nightfall from such a great perspective, the ghostly whisper of voices so far below. I blended a little texture with my original photograph in black and white to compliment the old world feel of this classic Italian scene.

For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
